Facts about the study

The MSc program in Aquatic Science and Technology is offered by the Technical University of Denmark in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen.

The program started in September 2009 and is unparalleled in Denmark due to its combination of quantitative and biological subjects. It offers a range of biological, technological and mathematical courses aiming at providing you with cross-curricular qualifications for working with global issues within ocean climate, environment and aquatic food supply.

Two thirds of the earth is covered by water and is under strong influence by human activities and climate change. The sustainable utilization of marine and freshwater ecosystems, the maintenance of their diversity, and the development of new aquatic production systems is of vital importance for the food supply and environment of future generations.

Denmark is the world’s fourth largest exporter of fish and fishery products and has a long tradition for aquatic research and innovation at the highest international level.

Courses and specializations

The central courses in the MSc program in Aquatic Science and Technology are:

  • Applied Aquatic Ecology
  • Ocean Physics
  • Introduction to Statistics
  • Mathematical Biology
  • Aquatic Ecosystem Management

You can tune your Master’s program to specialize in the following directions:

  • Aquaculture
  • Fisheries
  • Management of Aquatic Ecosystems
  • Biological Oceanography

What qualifications will you get?

As MSc in Aquatic Science and Technology you will have acquired a thorough understanding of aquatic environments. You will also have qualifications in data analysis and testing of hypotheses, construction of mathematical models, and the use of aquatic technology. Together, these qualifications will enable you to solve complex practical and theoretical problems within aquatic science and technology.
